OpenAI is moving ChatGPT deeper into personal healthcare by adding a feature that can connect Apple Health data and supported medical records directly to the chatbot.

The AI News account puts the launch on web and iOS for logged-in users aged 18 and older, across Free, Go, Plus and Pro tiers.

Users can connect Apple Health and, where available, records from US hospital systems, One Medical or Function Health.

Connected Records Enter General ChatGPT Conversations

The integration changes where clinical and fitness context appears inside ChatGPT.

Instead of keeping connected records inside a dedicated area, the product can draw medications, lab results, recent visits, sleep data and activity logs into ordinary conversations after the user grants permission.

An earlier test found that more than 70 percent of related conversations happened outside the dedicated space, according to The company.

That usage pattern pushed the sidebar tab toward a management role for account connections, synced data, suggested prompts and previous chats.

The examples show the operational direction without turning the chatbot into a clinician.

A meal-planning chat could account for a logged dietary restriction, and an activity suggestion could be adjusted for a recent injury recorded in synced data.

Product Guardrails Keep Diagnosis Outside The Claim

The company is positioning the tool as support rather than diagnosis, with users told to confirm important information with a healthcare provider.

Early-access accounts in the AI News article describe summaries of scattered medical history, longitudinal lab analysis and simpler coordination across Apple Health and MyChart.

The source record also underlines the risk boundary.

One nurse found an unexpected chart entry through the tool and treated it as something to follow up with providers, not as a clinical conclusion made by ChatGPT.

Weekly health-related ChatGPT queries involve more than 300 million people, according to OpenAI.

That scale makes safety and escalation choices central to the launch, especially when users ask the model to reason across records, wearable data and prior conversations.

Privacy Controls Face A Data-Quality Test

The company says connected medical records, Apple Health data and conversations that draw on them are excluded from foundation model training and ad targeting.

The permission-gated design also includes a deletion trigger: disconnecting a data source removes it from OpenAI systems within 30 days, while information already surfaced in chat history remains until the user deletes those conversations.

The record narrows memory creation as well.

Memories can be created from conversations about care, but not directly from raw connected records or Apple Health data.

Additional checks apply when actions through other plugins could expose sensitive information, including explicit confirmation for some cases.

Data quality is the harder operating gap.

A medication can remain in a synced record after a patient has stopped taking it, and some proprietary fitness-app scores may not transfer through Apple Health.

The release therefore gives ChatGPT a broader role in personal health management, while leaving readers to judge how the feature behaves when connected records are incomplete, stale or inconsistent across multiple apps.
