In a Data Center Dynamics account, Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, Ooredoo Group, Nokia and Nvidia launched Zankore by Indosat with a plan to deploy up to 1GW of AI data centre capacity in Indonesia.

The telecoms operator is positioning the project as infrastructure for AI workloads, with the first roughly 200MW of capacity targeted for the first half of 2027.

The plan brings a sovereign-AI and cloud-infrastructure buildout into Indonesia's data centre market as regional operators compete to host GPU-heavy workloads closer to enterprise customers.

Zankore Targets 200MW In First 2027 Phase

The project will eventually use 1GW of Nvidia DSX infrastructure capacity.

Nokia will supply AI networking, while Nvidia will provide GPU hardware and AI software for the platform.

Ooredoo Group is supplying long-term project capital.

A separate Ooredoo announcement put its Zankore investment at $800 million, while the group already operates 26 data centres across the Middle East through its Syntys data centre spin-off.

Zankore is targeting approximately 200MW of AI capacity in the first half of 2027, powered by Nvidia GB300 NVL72 systems.

Indosat also described plans to incorporate Nvidia DSX MaxLPS as a power-optimisation layer that reallocates unused GPU-fleet power and increases compute capacity inside the same facility power envelope.

Indosat Builds Around Models, AI Grid And AI-RAN

Indosat described MaxLPS as capable of delivering as much as 40 percent additional compute under the same power budget.

That performance claim remains tied to the company and Nvidia technology described in the disclosed account, rather than to an independent public benchmark.

Vikram Sinha, president director and chief executive of Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, framed Zankore around enterprises moving from AI experimentation to mission-critical deployment and needing an integrated AI ecosystem.

The stack includes models such as Sahabat-AI, intelligent network capabilities including AI Grid and AI-RAN, and the infrastructure behind Zankore.

Nokia chief executive Justin Hotard framed sovereign AI as an orchestration problem across compute, connectivity and control in AI factories, data centres and edge infrastructure.

The partners had previously launched an AI-RAN research centre in Indonesia.

Zankore Names Board And Indonesian Data Centre Ties

Zankore has formed a board for its long-term plans, with Ooredoo, Indosat and independent representation.

Former T-Mobile technology president Ulf Ewaldsson is chief executive.

Indosat already has data centre ties in the country.

In 2022, it formed a joint venture with BDx Data Centre and Lintasarta in an agreement then valued at about $300 million, and the companies described the venture as a response to Indonesia's need for higher-grade global data centre facilities.

The main open question is execution evidence: public materials still leave the 1GW target dependent on future power arrangements, facility delivery and customer uptake.
