Chunghwa Starts Taoyuan AI Data Centre With 36MW Target
RCR Wireless wrote that Chunghwa Telecom began operations at a new Lunping AI data centre in Taoyuan, with up to 36MW of planned IDC capacity and a separate Taichung colocation memorandum with the Taiwan Stock Exchange.

RCR Wireless wrote that Chunghwa Telecom has started operations at a new AI data centre in Lunping, Taoyuan, with the site expected to add up to 36MW to the carrier's IDC capacity at full build-out.
The Taiwan operator presented the launch during its second-quarter earnings update, where AI infrastructure was treated as a core growth line.
The same update placed the new facility beside optical networking, submarine cables and satellite connectivity in Chunghwa's wider regional platform.
Lunping Adds A New AI Data Centre Site
The Lunping facility began operations during the quarter.
Chunghwa described the site as newly built, and the 36MW figure refers to capacity expected after full build-out rather than capacity already delivered on day one.
The deployment extends the carrier's data centre footprint beyond conventional telecom services.
RCR Wireless framed the move as part of Chunghwa's effort to position itself as a regional hub for the AI era, combining distributed AI data centres with IOWN optical networking and sea-land-sky communications infrastructure.
Taichung Project Gets A Financial-Sector Link
A second AI data centre remains under construction in Taichung.
In July, Chunghwa and the Taiwan Stock Exchange agreed on dedicated colocation capacity for that site under a memorandum of understanding.
The financial-sector agreement gives the Taichung project a named customer category before launch.
Public details stop short of reserved megawatts, rack counts, pricing, cabinet density and the timetable for exchange capacity, leaving the customer configuration unresolved.
ICT Revenue And Orders Rose In The Quarter
Chunghwa's earnings materials put quarterly ICT revenue growth at 32% from the prior year and recurring ICT revenue growth at 9%.
The company linked that momentum to IDC, cybersecurity and international public cloud services.
The same materials put second-quarter ICT order intake 30% above the year-earlier period.
First-half 2026 ICT contract value was presented as comparable with the company's full-year 2025 total, giving the infrastructure plan a bookings context rather than a disclosed customer-by-customer deployment map.
Chunghwa also identified major AIDC project wins during the quarter.
Those wins were grouped with a Taipower energy storage project and multiple smart surveillance deployments; overseas subsidiaries were listed with 242% year-over-year revenue growth.
Connectivity Remains Part Of The AI Platform
President Lung Shih-Lin linked AI-driven data traffic and international connectivity demand to continued investment in submarine cable and satellite projects.
The company also highlighted an IOWN AI Fund established with global partners in June.
Several subsidiaries were presented as part of the same infrastructure strategy.
The company update listed Chunghwa Telecom Precision Test's AI semiconductor testing factory project and Chunghwa Leading Photonics Tech's debut on Taiwan's emerging stock exchange.
Build-Out Details Still Define The Next Test
The update gives Chunghwa a disclosed AI data centre start, a 36MW full-build target and a named Taichung colocation partner.
The next evidence will be the Lunping build-out schedule, live capacity, power sourcing, customer names beyond the Taiwan Stock Exchange memorandum and committed workloads for the new estate.
