U Mobile Tests OpenAI Models Across Malaysia 5G And Enterprise Services
Tech Wire Asia reported that U Mobile will work with OpenAI and AWS on AI uses across operations, enterprise services, network management and cybersecurity while its Malaysia 5G network buildout continues.

U Mobile is bringing OpenAI into its Malaysia 5G programme as the telco tests artificial intelligence across internal operations, enterprise services, network management and cybersecurity, Tech Wire Asia reported.
The collaboration gives the Malaysian operator early access to OpenAI frontier models and brings Amazon Web Services in for cloud infrastructure and technical support.
Initial work will focus on process automation, software development, data analytics and data science before the companies decide which applications move into production.
That sequence makes the deal more than a branding arrangement around generative AI.
U Mobile is trying to attach model access to the operating systems around a next-generation network buildout, where staff workflow, customer services, enterprise pilots and network controls could all draw on the same partner stack.
The company has not named the OpenAI models it will use first, set a rollout timetable or disclosed investment figures.
It also has not said whether applications created under the collaboration will run through Amazon Bedrock, even though OpenAI models are available through the AWS managed service for generative AI development.
Network operations remain one of the more consequential test areas.
U Mobile has not identified the functions it wants to automate or assist with OpenAI tools, but telecom operators already use AI for tasks including network lifecycle automation, resource management and security.
Those use cases can include forecasting network traffic, spotting faults, planning maintenance and reallocating capacity as conditions shift.
OpenAI has separately documented Deutsche Telekom work in which partner systems adjust mobile-network resources as demand changes during the day.
The enterprise side gives the partnership a second route into the market.
OpenAI will become an anchor partner of U Mobile's Enterprise Innovation Platform, a programme where companies, startups, developers and academic organisations can build and validate AI applications before wider use.
U Mobile introduced that platform in January 2026 with AWS, Huawei Malaysia, Palo Alto Networks and Qualcomm among its initial technology partners.
The physical EIP Hub launched on August 6, 2026 around U Mobile's 5G-Advanced infrastructure, giving organisations a site to demonstrate applications before broader deployment.
The launch examples show the type of workload U Mobile wants to connect to the platform.
The demonstrations covered visual monitoring with AI, 5G-supported digital twins, asset-management systems combining IoT and AI, inspection drones connected over 5G, surveillance uses and robotics.
The hub is also meant to host proof-of-concept work, validation and pilots.
Cybersecurity is part of the same testing map rather than a separate announcement.
U Mobile and OpenAI plan to examine threat detection, incident response and cyber resilience, alongside controls for secure AI deployment inside the telco and its enterprise ecosystem.
The current agreement still leaves the commercial shape open.
U Mobile and OpenAI said they will explore future AI-based products, services and partnerships for consumers and businesses, but no launch dates, deployment volumes, performance targets or cost-saving projections were disclosed.
