Bitcoin Holds $86,000 As Dollar Index Hits 18-Month High
CoinDesk reported that bitcoin stayed near $86,000 while the U.S. Dollar Index reached about 102.5, with U.S. rate expectations and European political risks strengthening the dollar backdrop.

Bitcoin held near $86,000 while the U.S. Dollar Index climbed to about 102.5, giving digital-asset markets a cleaner test of whether October’s crypto bid can survive a stronger dollar.
CoinDesk reported that the dollar gauge reached its highest point in nearly 18 months after rising from around 99 in early September.
The currency move matters because dollar strength can tighten financial conditions for risk assets without a direct crypto-specific shock.
A higher dollar raises debt-servicing pressure outside the United States, reduces overseas purchasing power and can make cash or government bonds more attractive when U.S. rates are also rising.
Dollar Momentum Sets The First Constraint
The DXY level also put the index above its 200-day moving average, which the source placed near 99.
That shift gave the dollar rally a technical confirmation at the same time bitcoin was still trading around the $86,000 mark rather than breaking lower with other risk-sensitive assets.
The Federal Reserve’s September rate increase supplied another part of the breakdown.
The central bank raised rates by 25 basis points to a 3.75% to 4% range, and markets were pricing a possible 4.5% to 4.75% range by June 2027.
Long-term Treasury yields, concerns about inflation, government borrowing and fiscal sustainability all contributed to that pressure.
Europe Adds A Second Pressure Point
Europe’s currency weakness amplified the dollar move because the euro carries 57.6% of the DXY basket.
The euro fell toward 1.12, a 17-month low, as fiscal and political concerns weighed on confidence in the region.
France’s deficit and borrowing-cost pressure formed one part of that concern ahead of the next presidential election.
Spain added another when Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez called a snap election for Nov. 29.
The confirmed market result is a split picture: the dollar index reached an 18-month high and European currency risks deepened, while bitcoin continued to hold near $86,000 after its early-October gains.
