Meta Expands Instagram School Program With Student Update Hub
Meta is extending Instagram’s School Partnership Program with a hub for verified school accounts, adding administrator channels, stories, notes, priority review and safety resources after nearly 17,000 schools joined the effort.

Meta is expanding Instagram’s School Partnership Program with a new hub for school-related accounts, turning a safety reporting channel into a broader way for educators to reach students and parents on the platform.
The program began last year through work with ISTE+ASCD, the education-technology and curriculum association partnership.
It gives educators a direct route to flag potential teen safety issues such as online bullying, and Meta says nearly 17,000 schools have joined so far.
The new hub adds communications tools for schools that sign up as Instagram partners.
Administrators will be able to use channels for brief announcements to students, families and other followers, while posting authority stays with school administrators.
School Stories and Notes will let verified students see updates from school-related accounts.
Administrators will be able to monitor those posts and remove stories or notes, giving schools a controlled path for time-sensitive announcements without opening posting rights to the full community.
Safety reporting remains part of the workflow.
When a partner school flags content that could breach Instagram’s Community Standards, the review moves into a priority queue, and schools will receive status updates and notifications when Instagram acts on a report.
Instagram will also provide educational resources that teachers can use to discuss online safety with students.
Meta is positioning the additions alongside its Teen Accounts controls for Instagram, Facebook, Messenger and Threads, as well as a recent agreement with 52 bipartisan state attorneys general in the United States to support further restrictions for teens and parents.
The expansion responds to feedback from administrators, educators and parents who found it difficult to keep students informed about school community updates.
It also gives Instagram a more formal operating role inside school communications, not only a moderation back channel for safety complaints.
For schools, the practical test is whether verified accounts and administrator-only tools make Instagram useful for routine updates without weakening safeguards around teen users.
For Meta, the next measure is adoption beyond the early pool of nearly 17,000 schools that joined the reporting program.
