Khosla Ventures led the round, with a16z and Breakthrough Energy returning, according to The Next Web.
The financing brings Mariana Minerals' total capital to about $400 million and values the two-year-old company at $1.5 billion, with Fortune cited as the first outlet to report the valuation.
Autonomous Mining Becomes The Funding Pitch
Mariana Minerals is not positioning itself as a software vendor to existing miners.
The company owns and operates the mining assets, and its pitch is that machine-learning systems can shorten the time needed to develop mines by combining exploration, operating software, project finance and mineral production inside one company.
The management team fits that operating thesis.
Chief executive Turner Caldwell previously ran Tesla's metals and minerals team, while the other founders came from machine learning at Affirm and energy project finance.
That mix gives investors a startup version of a mining company rather than a pure enterprise-software supplier.
Two US Sites Carry The Delivery Test
The Next Web identified Copper One as an idled Utah mine that Mariana Minerals bought last year.
The site restarted under autonomous software in four months and is ramping toward 50,000 tonnes of refined copper a year, the outlet reported.
The second project, Lithium One in Texas, is designed to recover battery-suitable lithium from wastewater tied to oil-and-gas operations, and the company is aiming for production in 2027.
Those two assets keep the story grounded in physical delivery: the company must restart, process and scale materials, not only improve a model workflow.
Critical Minerals Put AI In A Supply-Chain Frame
The supply-chain pressure is larger than one startup.
The Next Web put China's share of worldwide critical-mineral processing at up to 90%, and said the figure reaches 92% for rare-earth magnets used in phones and weapons.
That concentration turns AI-related mineral demand into an industrial-policy and national-security issue for US buyers.
The investor list reflects that broader frame.
Alongside Khosla and a16z, backers include BHP and In-Q-Tel, the CIA's venture arm, giving the round a mix of venture, mining-industry and national-security capital.
Software can improve scheduling, exploration and operating decisions, but mines still face construction crews, processing plants, permitting exposure and commodity prices.
Mariana Minerals wants ten commercial projects in ten years; the next evidence will be whether Copper One and Lithium One deliver tonnes of copper and lithium on the disclosed timetable.
