A crypto-linked pre-IPO contract is pricing ChangXin Memory Technologies far above its planned Shanghai offer, turning restricted access to China's largest memory-chip listing into a market-structure story for chip investors.

The contract tied to CXMT traded near $6.35 per share on Hyperliquid on Thursday after recently peaking at $8.60, while the official offer price is 8.66 yuan, or $1.28, per share.

The gap puts offshore demand, China's STAR market access rules and memory-chip scarcity in the same transaction flow before the company starts trading in Shanghai next Monday.

CXMT Contract Prices A Scarcity Premium

CNBC calculated that the contract price implies a market capitalisation of roughly $425 billion, or about 2.9 trillion yuan.

The planned listing valuation is 579 billion yuan, a level that would still make the deal the largest IPO in the tech-oriented STAR market's history.

The spread is not built on ordinary share ownership.

Trade.xyz offers the CXMT-linked contract on Hyperliquid, a decentralised derivatives exchange, so investors can speculate on the chipmaker's valuation without holding the underlying equity.

Hyperliquid perpetual contracts let traders take exposure to assets including crypto, commodities and equities without owning the asset itself.

Access restrictions explain part of the premium.

CNBC reported that the Shanghai debut is effectively closed to foreign investors, and mainland retail investors face a 500,000 yuan account-balance requirement plus two years of trading experience before they can trade on the STAR market.

Offshore traders are left with a synthetic venue instead of direct IPO allocation.

Shanghai Listing Meets AI Memory Demand

The chipmaker is the world's fourth-largest DRAM memory producer and is preparing to raise up to $8.6 billion.

The listing arrives during a memory upcycle driven by AI demand and global supply shortages that have lifted prices across the industry.

CXMT did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the valuation.

The pricing signal comes from a derivative contract before the public shares open, not from a company-set post-listing price or a settled order book on the Shanghai exchange.

Eric Chen, co-founder and CEO of Injective Labs, said the contract was forecasting where the stock might open, not assigning fundamental value to the company itself.

With most global investors unable to reach the underlying shares and few liquid venues available to short the stock, the price reflects the most optimistic participants.

Hyperliquid Scrutiny Extends The Risk

Coin Metrics senior research associate Tanay Ved wrote last month that Hyperliquid's pre-IPO perpetuals had created synthetic, 24/7 derivative markets for private technology firms.

The same Coin Metrics note put the Cerebras Systems contract within about 1.3% of the stock’s Nasdaq opening price and wrote that its SpaceX example traded roughly 20% above a fixed $135 offer price before the June debut after peaking above $220 in May.

Regulatory scrutiny now sits beside the pricing gap.

The Monetary Authority of Singapore placed Hyperliquid on its Investor Alert List in June, a public list for entities that are not licensed or authorised in the city-state.

Hyperliquid characterised the listing as neither a ban nor an enforcement action and denied presenting itself as MAS-regulated.

The contract will re-anchor once CXMT lists, leaving the immediate question to the Shanghai opening print, not the pre-IPO token market.

If a persistent gap remains, the unresolved evidence will be whether traders are valuing the memory-chip maker's fundamentals or paying for access that normal equity channels do not provide.
