Arrival of Namu at Dubai Port

The cargo ship Namu, which caught fire after an explosion in the Strait of Hormuz, has arrived at a port in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The vessel reached Dubai Drydocks early on May 8, local time, approximately twelve hours after departing from the site of the incident.

The Namu was towed from the accident site at around 12:40 p.m. on May 7, heading to Dubai, about seventy kilometers away.

Investigation Team Mobilized

A team of inspectors from the Korean government is set to investigate the cause of the fire.

This team includes local employees from the Korean Register, investigators from the Korea Maritime Safety Tribunal, forensic experts from the National Fire Agency, and representatives from shipping companies.

They will analyze CCTV footage from the ship's interior during the explosion and conduct interviews with the crew members.

The investigation will focus on the engine room, where the fire originated, and the hull, which still shows damage from the incident.

Details of the Incident

The explosion occurred on May 4 while the Namu was anchored in the Strait of Hormuz.

It remains unclear whether the blast resulted from an external attack or an internal malfunction.

At the time of the incident, the ship was carrying twenty-four crew members, including six Korean sailors.

Once the investigation is complete, the ship is scheduled for repairs.
