Amazon Luna Pushes Cloud Gaming As Console Prices Rise

Newsroom brief

Indian Express reported that Amazon is putting Luna games inside Prime Video as hardware prices climb, while cloud gaming services in India still have to overcome latency, connectivity and business-model limits.

Console price increases are giving cloud gaming a clearer hardware-cost argument, with Indian Express reporting that Amazon gaming chief Jeffrey Gattis sees a large audience outside dedicated consoles as Luna moves into the Prime Video app.

Gattis put the global gaming audience at “between two-and-a-half and three billion” people in a BBC interview cited by Indian Express.

Dedicated consoles cover only part of that audience, leaving Amazon to test whether Prime Video can turn game streaming into a lower-hardware entry point.

Prime Video Becomes Amazon's Game Shelf

Luna's placement inside Prime Video changes the customer path for Amazon.

Games available through the cloud service will sit beside shows and films, and users on Fire TVs in the US and UK will see a separate Games tab inside the Prime Video interface.

Prime Video gives Luna a front-door placement inside Amazon's existing subscription and media environment.

Netflix has also been trying to make video-streaming services into gaming destinations, while Amazon's pitch centres on players who may not buy a console.

Console Prices Give Streaming A Cost Opening

Console makers have added price pressure to the same hardware-cost debate.

Indian Express wrote that Sony and Microsoft recently raised console prices, while Valve priced the 512GB model of its new Steam Machine at $1,049 or approximately Rs 1,00,581.

Nintendo's own cost warning adds a component-supply layer.

In May this year, the company said higher component costs, especially memory, and tariff effects were expected to add roughly 100 billion yen ($638 million) to costs in the current financial year.

Indian Express reported that the Switch 2 Japan model price was set to rise by 10,000 yen to 59,980 yen, while the US device cost moved $50 higher to $499.99.

Cloud gaming avoids the local download and console requirement by running the game on a remote server and streaming play to a phone, tablet or controller.

The trade-off is network quality: a weak or unstable internet connection can turn the lower-hardware model into a worse user experience.

India Rollouts Put Cloud Gaming In Front Of New Users

India now gives the model a live distribution test.

Microsoft expanded Xbox cloud gaming to India in February this year for players with a compatible Bluetooth-enabled wireless controller, a high-speed internet connection and an Xbox Game Pass subscription.

The Microsoft rollout ties cloud access to the subscription rather than a separate console purchase.

Nvidia's GeForce Now has also launched in India after previous timing changes, and its entry plan is priced at Rs 999 per month.

The company presents the service around real-time ray tracing, DLSS, Multi-Frame Generation and low-latency gameplay on everyday devices, but that performance claim remains vendor-provided.

Latency, inconsistent experiences and business-model questions still limit cloud gaming as a mainstream replacement for dedicated hardware.

Luna's India launch timing and Prime Video paid-conversion target remain outside Amazon's public plan.
